Maritime and Cabotage Day – 100th Anniversary Celebration

We celebrated the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Cabotage Law and July 1st Maritime and Cabotage Day together with our maritime community, at a ceremony held at the Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Monument in Beşiktaş, with the participation of our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. It was especially meaningful for me to come together on this significant day with the Governor of Istanbul, Mr. Davut Gül, our Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Durmuş Ünüvar, our Director General of Maritime Affairs, Mr. Ünal Baylan, and esteemed representatives of our sector. The Cabotage Law is not merely a legal regulation; it is one of the strongest symbols of our independence at sea and our national maritime identity. Today, as we commemorate this 100-year legacy, we also feel, together, the responsibility to carry it further into the future. With respect and gratitude, we remember everyone who dedicated themselves to Turkish maritime affairs and fought for our independence at sea, first and foremost Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk; and I congratulate our entire maritime community on July 1st Maritime and Cabotage Day.
